Types of Small Skid Steers You Must Know

Small skid steers are pieces of equipment usually found on construction sites and on landscapers' flatbeds. They are often referred to as skid steer loaders and are usually propelled by tracks that look like those on military tanks. The front of the loader can be fixed with various attachments such as a bucket scoop for lifting and a blade for pushing snow. They are flexible machineries appropriate for many applications in different industries.

Skid Steer Loaders for Snow Removal

Some loaders are purposely used for projects requiring the removal of snow. They are perfect for the task due to their small size, maneuverability and traction in the snow. Their operation requires training and those used for the removal of snow are equipped with front buckets for scooping. These buckets are quite different from others found on loading machineries whose buckets are located behind and over the operator's head. In addition, they roll on tracks that are controlled by foot pedals which an operator must also be trained in managing.

Hydrostatic Drive Systems

Some loaders are equipped with hydrostatic drive systems which make them to be easier to maneuver and operate because they possess only one lever or foot-pedal required for directional control. Loaders that are equipped with this technology do not need to be subjected to mechanical shifting which makes them to be easier to operate in order to speed up on-the-job production.

Mini-Skid Steers

A few manufacturers offer ultra-compact skid steers referred to as mini-skids which are specially used in contracting and landscaping. The light-weight of these machines, some of them can weigh as little as 900 pounds, gives them the opportunity to work on sandy and muddy conditions without being slowed down. They also make use of rubber tracks which make it easer to operate them on different types of surfaces without causing damage to the surfaces.

However, it is very important to make use of small skid steers that are in good condition so that you will be able to execute your projects efficiently and avoid any disappointment. Depending on the type of project in your hand, you should also ensure that you get all the necessary accessories that will complement your work in order to achieve your desired result. The machine should also be operated by competent experts because it is only by doing so that your projects will be executed to your delight and according to specifications.
